Cade Cut Due to Public Reaction

The Minnesota Vikings released defensive back Mossy Cade Friday because of what the club said was negative public reaction to Cade, a convicted sex offender.

Cade had been picked up earlier in the week on waivers from the Green Bay Packers.

“Although we strongly believe a person deserves a second chance after he has paid his debt to society, we also believe that we should have sensitivity to public sentiment in what really is a non-football matter,” General Manager Mike Lynn said.

“The Minnesota Vikings received an overwhelmingly negative response . . . in letters and phone calls to our acquiring the rights to Mossy Cade.”

Cade, 26, was paroled last month after serving 15 months in a Wisconsin prison for sexual assault.
