A Bakersfield man charged with rolling a log down a cliff and killing a young woman sunbathing on an ocean beach pleaded innocent at his arraignment in San Luis Obispo. A preliminary hearing on an involuntary manslaughter charge against Danny Paul Phillips, 30, was scheduled Dec. 16. Pismo Beach police said Phillips and fellow construction workers were involved in horseplay atop a 50-foot cliff at Shell Beach on Oct. 14. Officers said a 100-pound log rolled down the cliff and killed Kristi A. Rickson, 19, of Grover City as she sunbathed next to her fiance.
