A man led authorities on a 30-mile chase at speeds up to 90 m.p.h. on Interstate 5 before they caught him after he left his truck and tried to escape on foot near an exit in Oceanside, Orange County sheriff’s deputies said. Deputies stopped Abraham Barrera, 30, on suspicion of drunk driving at the Avery Parkway exit in Mission Viejo, Lt. Harold Schaffroth said. But before the deputies could question him, Barrera sped south in his pickup truck. At the Beach Cities exit near Dana Point, Schaffroth said, Barrera crossed three traffic lanes and tried to ram a deputy’s car. He missed, and the chase continued to Oceanside, where Barrera missed the Harbor Drive exit and veered into ivy, Schaffroth said. Barrera then tried to run away, but was caught. Barrera was booked on suspicion of auto theft at Orange County Jail.
