Back in Japan, Vince Coleman of the St. Louis Cardinals had 3 singles, but the big hitters were silent and the United States and Japan all-stars battled to a 0-0 tie at Tokyo in the final game of their exhibition baseball series.

The game was called after the regulation 9 innings because of a rule that exhibition contests cannot go into extra innings.

The major leaguers finished the tour of Japan with a 3-2-2 record. Sunday’s finale was played in front of 56,000 at the newly opened Tokyo Dome.
