Costa Mesa Police in Car Mirror Could Mean Turkey in Your Oven
If drivers are on their best behavior in Costa Mesa this week, they may be pulled over by police.
Costa Mesa police plan to reward 75 good drivers with $10 gift certificates toward Thanksgiving turkeys.
“We try to spot particular drivers and follow them for about a mile,” Costa Mesa Police Traffic Sgt. John FitzPatrick said. “We look to see that they are obeying the speed limit, stopping at red lights, slowing for yellow, not following too closely, yielding to other drivers and wearing their seat belt.”
But it is not as easy as it may seem. “I’ve tried to give away two myself, but it’s hard to find courteous drivers,” FitzPatrick said.
The police said they are targeting the areas in the city where the most accidents occur.
