Pasadena : No More Fruit Flies Found
No more Oriental fruit flies have been found since the second phase of the fly eradication program ended in the San Gabriel Valley last week.
Two Oriental fruit flies were found in Hacienda Heights on Oct. 10 and one in Pasadena on Oct. 20.
Because no additional fruit flies have been found, no quarantine will be imposed on home-grown fruit in the 9-square-mile eradication area in southern Pasadena, South Pasadena and San Marino.
The third phase of the eradication program will begin on Monday. More than 5,000 blobs of bait, which is laced with insecticide and a female fly hormone to attract the male fruit flies, will be spread on utility poles, trees and fence posts.
