Long Beach : Simon Appointed to Board

Share

Former Councilwoman Renee B. Simon was appointed to the city Redevelopment Agency board Tuesday by the Long Beach City Council.

Simon said she is “very pleased and I think it will be an extremely challenging position. I have long supported the concept of redevelopment.”

Simon, who served as a 3rd District councilwoman from 1972 to 1978, will replace agency board member Daniel S. Dunlap, who recently resigned. Councilwoman Jan Hall, who lost to Simon in 1972 but won in 1978, cast the lone dissenting vote against the appointment.

As chairwoman of the Coalition for Preservation of Historic Long Beach, Simon said she hopes to bring her sensitivity to the need to save significant buildings to the agency. She was deputy director of transportation planning for the Southern California Assn. of Governments for eight years and now is a communications consultant.
