Local News in Brief : RTD Plans Changes on 80 Bus Lines

Share

The RTD will adjust bus schedules on 80 lines, primarily night-service schedules, and make route and service changes on nine others, with the changes to go into effect Christmas Day.

The changes will result in service improvements on some lines in downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, officials said, while selected night service will be canceled because of reduced demand and to cut costs.

Changes include the start of a new, limited-service Line 357 on Western Avenue, similar to a successful limited operation launched in September along Vermont Avenue.

“These changes will improve productivity and reduce operating costs, as well as provide new travel opportunities for many passengers,” said Alan Pegg, RTD general manager. “An estimated 100,000 boarding passengers will be affected by the schedule changes and about 9,700 will be affected by the route changes.”

The changes call for rerouting selected RTD bus lines that serve downtown Los Angeles and should provide better access for patrons traveling to and from the San Fernando Valley to the central business district as well. More changes are planned for February, Pegg noted.
