Justice came easy to a Rancho Palos Verdes elementary school last week.

Just two days after burglars made off with $7,000 in electronic and communications equipment from the Vista Grande School office last weekend, school officials returned to work Monday to find that a VCR, public address system and computer had been returned.

“Normally you have to go to court to get things back,” said school Principal Patricia Wright. “The only reason I think they returned it is that if kids did it, their parents told them to return it.”

Initials etched into the sides of the equipment might also have made it difficult for thieves to keep the goods, sheriff’s deputies said.

“We’re just glad to have it back,” said Wright.

A teacher working that Saturday discovered a school window smashed and several doors unlocked. The VCR, public address system and computer had been taken, along with a small-screen television and a secretary’s portable radio.

When Wright returned to work last Monday, she found all but the television and radio piled atop her desk.

Police said they have no suspects in the theft.

“We don’t have any clue who did it,” Wright said. “But at least everything is in working order.”
