Parents who do not want their children exposed to bare breasts on the beach are trying without much success to get topless sunbathers to cover up.

Ana Verea, who has 13-year-old twin daughters, said she and five other couples want police to arrest topless women behind their condominium building, or at least force them to put on their tops.

“We’re very much concerned,” Verea said. “We spend a lot of time at the beach and we don’t want our children to accept that as part of life.”

Most of the offending sunbathers come from neighboring hotels. Police say they are powerless because topless sunbathing is not against the law.

“We can’t enforce morality if there is no vehicle for us to enforce it,” Capt. Larry Mathieson said.
