Gerald Swerling has been named executive vice president and Western regional manager of the public relations firm Porter/Novelli. He will be based in Los Angeles. Swerling replaces Randi E. Thompson, who plans to take a leave of absence and concentrate on strategic planning upon her return. Swerling previously was senior vice president and director of public relations at Ingalls Quinn & Johnson Public Relations, Boston.
