A 25-year-old man wanted in the stabbing death of his girlfriend surrendered to police Wednesday, police said.
Thomas Jon Kemp called his probation officer, Elaine Maxey, at 10:30 a.m. and told her he wanted to turn himself in, said Jerry Strom, a probation supervisor.
Maxey talked him into meeting police in the 3900 block of Ohio Street in San Diego, Strom said, where he surrendered. Kemp was put on probation in October for auto theft.
Kemp was being held Wednesday night at County Jail downtown on suspicion of murder, a jail clerk said.
On Monday, Geraline Jane Bertrand, 34, was stabbed to death in her National City home about 6:45 p.m. on East 18th Street.
