Pig Hunter Accidentally Killed by Companion

A 35-year-old Pacific Palisades man hunting wild pigs on Santa Catalina Island was fatally shot by a fellow hunter Thursday in what sheriff’s deputies termed an accident.

The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Deputy Hal Grant said the victim was apparently mistaken for an animal and shot by one of two other men in the party who were hunting in a wild, brush-covered area seven miles west of Avalon.

After mountain search-and-rescue parties were called to carry the victim to a road, he was flown in a helicopter ambulance to St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach where he died.
