Boys’ Basketball Roundup : Walker Leads Brea-Olinda

Keith Walker scored 36 points and Brea-Olinda High School rallied in the second half for a 74-71 victory over Paramount Monday night in a nonleague game at Brea.

The Wildcats (1-0) trailed, 43-36, at halftime but outscored Paramount, 25-11, in the third quarter. Walker scored 15 points in the third quarter.

Aaron Charlton had 9 points and Matt Chamberlain 8 for Brea. Chamberlain also had 8 rebounds. Fritz Wickman had 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

In the Garden Grove tournament:

Western 80, Fullerton 71--Joe Romero scored 29 points to lead the Pioneers (2-0) in a first-round game at Garden Grove High School. Matt Schroder scored 10 points for Western. Pete Bach scored 23 points and Lee Green 21 for Fullerton (0-2).

Magnolia 56, Bolsa Grande 33--Jayson Nester scored 24 points to lead the Sentinels (2-1) in a first-round game at Garden Grove High School. Magnolia led, 19-7, at the end of the first quarter. Nester scored 10 points in the first quarter.

In the Santa Ana tournament:

Sunny Hills 60, Tustin 59--Marcus Hopkins hit a 5-foot bank shot with 30 seconds left to give Sunny Hills (2-0) the victory in a first-round game at Santa Ana High School. Hopkins scored 19 points, Walter Mitter 12 and Jeff White 10 for the Lancers. Cheavly Le and Dylan Steiler each scored 16 points for Tustin.

In the Valencia tournament:

El Modena 88, Sonora 60--Forward Robbie Pietsch scored 24 points to El Modena in the first round at Valencia High School. John Darrow added 18 and Jeff Leedom 14 for El Modena (2-0), which plays Katella in the second round tonight at 8.

Canyon 50, Valencia 48--Bryan Yannoy scored 14 points to lead Canyon (2-0) to a victory in a first-round game at Valencia High School. Abdi Barkhorder scored 11 points for Canyon. Ben Herrera scored 12 points for Valencia (0-1).

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Marina 62, Mission Viejo 56 (OT)--Mission Viejo tied the score, 51-51, at the end of regulation but Marina outscored Mission Viejo, 11-5, in the overtime period. Cherokee Parks scored 24 points and Francis Carreon 15 for Marina.
