Pepperdine Plays at Fullerton Tonight
Pepperdine and Cal State Fullerton, two teams with first-year coaches, meet tonight at 7:30 in Fullerton’s Titan Gym.
Fullerton, coached by John Sneed, who replaced George McQuarn after his resignation last month, is 1-0 after a surprising 59-57 victory over Utah Thursday.
Cedric Ceballos, a junior forward, had 18 points in that game, and Wayne Williams, a freshman who is starting at point guard, hit 2 free throws with 7 seconds left to seal the victory.
Pepperdine, coached by Tom Asbury, who replaced Jim Harrick, is 2-2 and coming off an 87-79 victory over Nevada Reno Saturday. Dexter Howard, a junior forward, scored a career-high 31 points in that game and is averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds. Junior forward Tom Lewis is averaging 20 points and 6 rebounds a game.
The series between the teams is tied, 4-4, with Pepperdine defeating Fullerton, 80-71, last season.
