HIGH SCHOOLS : Roundup : Torrey Pines Wins to Improve to 3-0

In a battle of undefeated boys’ basketball teams, El Capitan dropped to 4-1 while Torrey Pines improved to 3-0 with a 92-51 victory in its own tournament. Courtie Miller led Torrey Pines with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 2 assists. Darren Cox had 14 points, 6 assists and 3 steals for Torrey Pines. Jeremy McGarity led El Capitan with 13 points, and Chris Anders added 11. Torrey Pines led, 51-22, at the half.

Ramona 77, Rancho Buena Vista 74--Tony Newman had 30 points and 24 rebounds to lead Ramona (2-1). Nate Hollingsworth added 22 points for the winners. For Rancho Buena Vista (1-3), Todd Fellars scored 23, Greg Porter added 19 and Darryl Parker had 17 points and 17 rebounds, but the Longhorns’ 3-point deficit (45-42) at the half stood.

Lancer tournament

Mira Mesa 63, Chula Vista 60--Mark Ziegler’s 26 points and 11 rebounds led Mira Mesa past the Spartans. Ziegler is averaging 14 rebounds a game. J.J. Rowlett added 19 for Mira Mesa (2-1). Chula Vista (1-2) was led by Robert Greaser’s 23 points and Sean Desmond’s 19. Chula Vista led, 27-18, at the half.

Sweetwater 70, Point Loma 52--Joseph McDowell’s 23 points, 15 in the second half, led Sweetwater. McDowell added 11 rebounds and Cortez Rice had 13 points, including two 3-pointers. Sweetwater (3-0) led, 29-24, at the half. Jim Griffin led Point Loma (2-2) with 20 points.

La Jolla 76, Hilltop 72--David Berteaux (36 points) led La Jolla past host Hilltop. Adam Kleid added 20 for the winners. Hilltop’s leading scorers were Chris White (13) and Josh Wenning (18). Hilltop led, 46-36, at the half.

Kearny 53, Hoover 43--Hoover’s Bracey Simmons gave a 25-point effort, but the Cardinals still dropped their fourth consecutive game. Carlos Morgan and Andre White paced the Komets with 12 and 11 points. Kearny improved to 2-2.

San Clemente tournament

Savanna (Anaheim) 60, Fallbrook 47--John Abi of Savanna led all scorers with 19 points. For Fallbrook (1-1), Chris Miller had 12 and Travis Teagle added 9. Savanna (2-1) led 31-22 at the half.

Riverside Kiwanis tournament

Damien (Pomona) 58, San Pasqual 53--San Pasqual held Damien to 13 first-half points to take a 23-13 lead, but Damien tied it at the end of three quarters and pulled away in the fourth. Erik Meek had 32 points and 13 rebounds for San Pasqual (1-3), which fell into the loser’s bracket. Sam Morrison scored 18 points to lead Damien.
