About 55,000 people are expected to attend Saturday’s 26th annual Marina del Rey Christmas Boat Parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m.

“Christmas Dreams” is the theme of the 2-hour parade, sponsored by the Pioneer Skippers Boat Owners Assn., a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safe family boating.

Actress Cloris Leachman is the parade grand marshal.

Other celebrities expected to ride in the electrical-light parade include John Considine of “Another World,” Monica Hyland of “General Hospital,” James Crittenten of “Paradise,” Lee Benton of “Mike Hammer” and the Los Angeles Raiders cheerleaders.

The parade of about 70 decorated yachts through the marina’s main channel can best be viewed from Fisherman’s Village on Fiji Way, Burton Chace Park at the west end of Mindanao Way and the north or south jetties, accessible from Pacific Avenue and Vista Del Mar, according to parade spokeswoman Margaret Clare.

Parking in the county’s 11 lots at the marina will be free after 4 p.m.

The parade is financed by boat entry fees, donations and advertising in a souvenir program. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a charity for abused children.
