An unspecified number of employees at the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park near Escondido were suspended pending an in-house investigation into drug use at the popular tourist attractions, zoo officials said. Jeff Jouett, a spokesman for the zoo, said workers in a variety of jobs were sent home with pay this week while a private security consulting firm conducted interviews about the use and sale of narcotics by on-duty employees. “The investigation is not concluded yet. . . . We are analyzing the information we have gathered and are deciding whether further interviews are warranted,” Jouett said.
