Controlling Growth in South County

Share

I am writing to implore you to do all you can to bring about controlled land development in south Orange County. I especially ask you to help stop the destruction of Laguna Canyon and help preserve it for present and future generations. Laguna Canyon is the last remaining coastal wilderness area in all of Southern California; its future is in jeopardy.

When I moved to Southern California 5 years ago, I was aware of extensive plans to develop south Orange County. These plans are rapidly reaching fruition as we watch the hills on Crown Valley Parkway, south Pacific Coast Highway, the Aliso-Viejo area, as well as Irvine, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach become blanketed with homes and shopping centers.

Many of us do not oppose development per se, but rather the thoughtless, uncontrolled growth that we see overtaking more and more of our natural environment every day. The situation has become intolerable, yet home prices continue to be the highest in the nation. It will only be by strong and compassionate action on the part of influential people that controlled development in south Orange County will occur. Laguna Canyon is unique; it would be tragic if it is lost forever.
