MOTHERS AND GANGS

Share

“Mothers, Sons and the Gangs” (by Sue Horton, Oct. 16) really hit home. Not because I have a son who is a gang member--I have a son who has had problems with the law. It is a heart-wrenching thing to see your child in a place like that. But what is even worse is the insensitivity of many people toward the parents. They are blamed for their child’s actions, made to feel guilty and ashamed. In some cases it is the parents’ fault, but in most it is just that the child wants to do what he wants to do. People don’t know how hard it is to get help until they’ve experienced it.
