MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears will meet tonight in the National Football League regular-season finale without much at stake.
The Bears (12-3), the National Football Conference Central Division winners, are guaranteed home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
And Minnesota (10-5) already knows it will face the Rams in a wild-card game Dec. 26. If the Vikings win tonight, the game will be played in Minnesota.
Bear Coach Ditka said that Mike Tomczak will start at quarterback against the Vikings in place of Jim McMahon, who has been sidelined since Oct. 30 with a knee injury. However, McMahon’s agent, Steve Zucker, said McMahon has been given medical clearance to play.
The Vikings have beaten the Bears twice in 1988, by scores of 28-21 in a preseason game in Sweden and 31-7 at Chicago in the third week of the regular season.
