Fox Broadcasting is going further along the nonfiction TV route, starting next year. The documentary series “Cops,” to premiere in January, will follow the professional and personal daily lives of police officers in Broward County, Fla., statistically one of the highest crime areas in the United States. Mobile camera crews will travel with a variety of officers in their daily lives for seven days a week, morning until night. “We are proud to have been selected as the first police department in the country to be the subject of a whole new concept in television,” said Nick Navarro, the sheriff of Broward County. “Cops” will document narcotics smuggling, gang warfare and armed robbery in addition to the personal struggles of members on the force. The KTTV Channel 11 show has a one-hour premiere Jan. 7 at 9 p.m. and settles into a half-hour time slot Jan. 15 at 10:30 p.m.
