Complaint Against Rep. Kennedy Dropped
A teen-ager who was involved in a traffic altercation with Rep. Joseph Kennedy (D-Mass.) withdrew an assault complaint Wednesday and claimed that the congressman had apologized.
Victor Avila, 17, who said Kennedy shoved him into a car after their vehicles nearly hit each other Tuesday afternoon, withdrew the complaint application he had filed in Brighton District Court.
Avila had acknowledged that the incident “was both of our faults,” while Kennedy said he “reprimanded” the youth because he felt he was speeding along a narrow residential street and may have been endangering children in the neighborhood.
Avila, who lives near Kennedy in the city’s Brighton section, said he decided to withdraw the complaint after Kennedy came to his house and offered what Avila said was an apology.
A Kennedy spokesman confirmed that the congressman had visited the teen-ager but denied he had apologized.
