“A Burning Beach,” Eduardo Machado’s drama about Cuban society on the brink of revolution in 1895, will launch the Los Angeles Theatre Center’s 10th Festival of Premieres; the play will run from Feb. 2 to March 19. Artistic producing director Bill Bushnell will stage with associate director Jose Luis Valenzuela.
“Beach” joins the two other previously announced festival plays: the world premiere of Thomas Babe’s “Demon Wine,” described as a contemporary ghost story (Feb. 10 to March 19), and the Los Angeles premiere of Casey Kurtti’s “Three Ways Home,” about a black woman on welfare and a white career woman who try to find some common ground (Feb. 24 to April 30).
Also part of this festival is a central “Big Weekend” Feb. 23 to 26 that includes play readings and a symposium. Admission to Big Weekend events is included in the purchase of a regular ticket to any of the three above-mentioned plays. Information: (213) 627-5599.
