Florida State coaches will decide today whether Deion Sanders, arrested Saturday night on charges of battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct, will be allowed to play in next Monday’s Sugar Bowl where the Seminoles will play Auburn.
Bobby Bowden, Florida State coach, said he wanted to speak with Sanders, a two-time All-American defensive back, before announcing a decision.
“I really can’t comment until I get home and find out exactly what happened,” Bowden said in a telephone interview from his son’s home in Alabama.
Sanders was released from the Lee County jail Saturday night after posting $2,600 bond, Ft. Myers, Fla. police said.
Sanders and friends got into an argument with a sales clerk in a Ft. Myers mall over the purchase of a pair of $25 earrings.
