Channel Islands 51, Palmdale 35--Channel Islands (9-3) took the second-round game at Newbury Park High behind 15 points and 12 rebounds by senior center Ytteb Bowls.

The Raiders’ 2-3 defense forced the Falcons to commit 16 first-half turnovers and Channel Islands took a 27-17 halftime lead.

Channel Islands outrebounded the taller Falcons, 37-27.

Palmdale (3-6) was led by center Tanya Blair with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Dora Sattiewhite scored 5 of her 7 points in the third quarter as Channel Islands outscored Palmdale, 16-4, to open up a comfortable 43-21 lead.

Besides Bowls’ offensive leadership, the Raiders put together a balanced scoring attack with 8 players putting points on the scoreboard.

But despite his team winning its second tournament game, Coach Ryle Lynch Cole was unhappy.

“I have to get on my players,” Cole said. “I want us to be in good shape and iron out the mistakes. Sometimes we did, but we just played so sloppy it makes me mad.”

Channel Islands will face Mt. Carmel, a 51-50 winner over Hueneme, in the quarterfinal round today at 3 p.m. at Thousand Oaks High.

Camarillo 57, Cabrillo 19--Nichole Victoria scored 12 first-quarter points and a full-court press offense helped the Scorpions stake a 23-0 first-quarter lead at Newbury Park High.

Camarillo (7-1) held Cabrillo scoreless until 6:25 of the second quarter when Cabrillo guard Adele Marks hit a 12-foot jump shot to make the score 27-2.

Victoria had a game-high 16 points and center Angie Long had 14 for Camarillo.

Theresa Herdman led Cabrillo with 7 points.

Camarillo will face Westlake in a quarterfinal game today at 4:30 p.m. at Thousand Oaks High.

Pasadena 48, La Reina 46--Tamera Wallace scored 10 points to lead the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind overtime victory in a consolation-round game at Newbury Park High.

Teri Fasching had a game-high 11 points for La Reina.
