Local News in Brief : Woman Charged in Death of New Baby
An Altadena woman was charged Tuesday with murdering her newborn son by placing him outside her house, where he died of exposure only hours after birth.
Ann Marie St. Cyr, 20, has been held without bail since the infant was found dead in the family’s back yard last Thursday.
St. Cyr’s mother, Cecelia Patterson, 44, who was also arrested after the infant’s death, will not be charged because of insufficient evidence, Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis said.
Authorities said Patterson called paramedics early Thursday to report that her daughter was experiencing heavy bleeding. After physicians at Huntington Memorial Hospital examined St. Cyr, they told deputies that she had given birth within the past 12 hours.
Investigators returned to the family home, were given permission to search the residence and found the dead infant in the back yard.
