Pepperdine, trailing by 21 points at halftime, lost to 10th-ranked Nevada Las Vegas, 88-56, Wednesday night at the Thomas and Mack Center.

Stacey Augmon finished with a game-high 20 points and 8 rebounds for the Runnin’ Rebels (6-2). Pepperdine (7-5) got 12 points each from Craig Davis, Casey Crawford and Shann Ferch. Crawford also had 13 rebounds.

UNLV took a 47-26 lead after scoring the last 9 points of the first half and holding Pepperdine’s Tom Lewis scoreless in the first 20 minutes. The Waves wilted under the pressure of UNLV’s aggressive defense, which forced 14 turnovers in the game, many of them converted into fast-break scores.

Pepperdine fell behind, 31-15, after 13 minutes, but Davis scored 7 straight points to slow the Rebels temporarily.

The Waves scored the first 5 points of the second half, but Augmon’s 3-point field goal broke the brief Rebel drought.

Augmon played only sparingly in the second half after getting his fourth foul with 16 minutes left.

Moses Scurry and David Butler each added 10 points for the Rebels.
