Holiday Party Time

Share

It’s not a ho-hum fashion season at holiday parties in Los Angeles, where wit-with-glamour is the latest stylistic mix. At the Joffrey Ballet’s opening night, “creative black tie” was the dress code for those who combined classic formal clothes with bits of casual wear. A tuxedo with tennis shoes, for example, was worn by the Music Center’s Gordon Davidson to the debut of “The Nutcracker.”

And in spite of the bad press the fashion industry has recently received, local models proved at celebrations around town that dressing up is still the best revenge. They turned out for year-end festivities, including parties hosted by Nina Blanchard and L.A. Models, in outfits that could easily have answered Newsweek’s cover question, “Who Would Wear This Stuff?” In fact, many of these young Los Angeles women are looking good this season in outfits quite like those on the magazine cover: short, tight and either wildly colorful or all-black.

And let’s not forget the children. You can see from the photos on this page that they’ve got that L.A. night-life look, from perky topknots to patterned tights and decorative shoes.
