Westside Pavilion

Was Mayor Tom Bradley’s veto of the expansion of the Westside Pavilion a political move (Metro, Dec. 23)? As a resident of the Cheviot Hills/Rancho Park area for 33 years--frankly, I don’t give a damn! Whatever the mayor’s reasons, we, in this “former” lovely, bedroom community, will now get some respite from developers gone crazy on Los Angeles’ Westside.

Although the mayor did not support Proposition U (the slow-growth initiative) his reasons seemed perfectly clear. The area that would have benefited from the mayor’s stand was South-Central Los Angeles. West Los Angeles has already and continues to be developed beyond all reason despite Proposition U. The population density has increased a hundredfold; I walked to the press conference on Westwood and Pico Boulevards because of the parking problem.

If West Los Angeles is any indication of the no-growth policy, where do we go from here?
