A self-described, white-supremacist “skinhead” has been arrested in connection with the racially motivated, drive-by shooting death of a Reno man, officers said.

Police said Matthew D. Faessel, 18, was taken into custody Saturday in Bakersfield, Calif., at the home of relatives.

He remained in Bakersfield jail without bail Sunday and police were unsure whether he planned to fight extradition to Nevada.

An arrest warrant charges Faessel with murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the Dec. 10 shooting death of Tony Montgomery, 27, in front of his sister’s northeast Reno home.

Faessel and two other teen-age suspects in the case have been identified as “skinheads,” young neo-Nazi racists who have been linked to racial and religious crimes in 23 other states.

A criminal complaint alleges Faessel and Angela Stanley, 17, cruised the streets of Reno looking for a black person and shot Montgomery solely because he was black. Stanley, who allegedly drove the car while Faessel performed the shooting, was arraigned Friday in Reno Justice Court and awaits a Jan. 13 preliminary hearing.
