A 30-year-old man was arrested after a tip to police that he was armed with dynamite and a gun, National City police said Thursday.

Police received a call about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday that Kim James Costanzo of San Diego was alone in the National Laminated Plastics building on Hoover Avenue. When Costanzo stepped outside and surrendered to police, he was armed with a .38-caliber handgun, police said.

A Sheriff’s Department bomb-sniffing dog, Blast, found a plastic container with two sticks of dynamite. At Costanzo’s home, police found another stick of dynamite, an electric blasting cap and 1 pound of smokeless powder under his bed. The dynamite recovered had been stolen from the Gordon Carter Co. between March and May, police said.
