SOUTHLAND : Reiner Will Run for Atty. Gen.

Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner today announced that he will run for California attorney general, assuming that incumbent Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp runs for governor.
Reiner, who heads the nation’s largest prosecutorial agency, said that if elected he will focus on the same issues that have gained his attention during his tenure as district attorney, and before that as Los Angeles city attorney. Those issues, he said, are reform of the criminal justice system and environmental and consumer protection. Reiner, who was recently elected to a second term as district attorney, was asked how a run for state office would affect the rest of his term. “I would hope it would shorten it,” he quipped.
