The body of a man who had been burned beyond recognition was found on a beach road near Pacific Coast Highway, police said Monday.
A patrol officer found the body at 11:15 p.m. Sunday about a mile from Golden West Street, Police Lt. Bill Mamelli said.
“The body had been set afire with an unknown flammable liquid,” Mamelli said. “The body was burned beyond recognition, and (investigators) were unable to determine at this time the cause of death or if the homicide occurred at that location or somewhere else.”
An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death. Homicide detectives are investigating.
