Bernardi Released From Hospital
City Councilman Ernani Bernardi left the hospital Monday, five days after he hit his head in a fall at his Van Nuys home while suffering from a flu-like illness.
The 77-year-old northeast San Fernando Valley councilman required five stitches after cutting his head last Wednesday when he stood to answer the phone and, weakened by his illness, fainted and fell.
A spokeswoman for Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Panorama City said Bernardi was “stable and doing fine” when he checked out.
The councilman’s aides said they did not know when he would return to work.
Bernardi, the council’s senior member with nearly 28 years of service, faces an election in April.
