Cal State Fullerton, which has lost 5 straight games, travels to Goleta today to play UC Santa Barbara, one of the four undefeated NCAA Division I teams.
The Gauchos (10-0) are the only unbeaten team that isn’t in the Associated Press top 20. The other undefeated teams are No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Illinois, and No. 20 Providence.
The Gauchos, 1-0 in the Big West Conference, are led by junior guard Carrick DeHart, who is averaging 20 points a game. But Santa Barbara also has a strong inside game, anchored by junior forwards Mike Doyle (17 points a game) and Eric McArthur (15 points).
Fullerton, after a 5-1 start, has lost its last 5, all at home, including 2 Big West games.
Cedric Ceballos, a junior forward who averaged 25 points a game in the first 7 games, has averaged only 10 in the past 4. Mark Hill, a junior guard, has averaged 21 in the past 3 games.
