A Rancho Penasquitos woman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that she tried to stab her 11-year-old son to death.

Keon Lee, 37, who had the arraignment proceedings interpreted into Korean for her, was ordered held on $500,000 bail.

Lee is charged with attempted murder, child endangerment, inflicting corporal punishment on a child and assault with a deadly weapon. She appeared before San Diego Municipal Judge H. Ronald Domnitz in chains and jail clothing.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Aaron Katz unsuccessfully argued that bail should be set at $1 million. Katz declined to say how many stab wounds the boy suffered and did not divulge the child’s name to reporters.

“I don’t want to go into details of the case. The police are still investigating. . . . She’s had mental problems in the past,” Katz said.

The prosecutor did say that Lee tried to buy a gun last month, but did not want to wait for the 15-day waiting period that is required for such purchases.

The boy remains hospitalized with wounds suffered in the attack Saturday at the family home.

Lee and her husband also have a 13-year-old daughter.

Domnitz set a March 3 preliminary hearing.
