Local News in Brief : Huntington Beach : 9 in Van Injured as It Overturns After Collision

Nine people traveling in a Toyota van were injured Tuesday when the van collided with a Dodge Aries at a Huntington Beach intersection, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. when Sandra Greeley, 48, of Huntington Beach was traveling eastbound on Atlanta Avenue in her Dodge Aries and collided with the van driven by Christine Greasley, 36, who was traveling southbound on Beach Boulevard, Police Lt. Bill Mamelli said.

“Greeley’s vehicle struck the right side of Greasley’s vehicle,” he said. “The van went out of control, rolled over and ejected three of the nine occupants.”

The driver and all of the passengers in the van were injured. The driver of the Aries was not, Mamelli said.

The most seriously injured were identified as Joan Greasley, 61, of Leicestershire, England, who suffered a concussion and a fractured skull; and Linda Tacey, 38, of Cornwall, England, who also suffered a concussion. They were in serious condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center.

The others who suffered minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, were identified as Christine Greasley, 36; Phil Greasley, 38; Michelle Tacey, 6, and Laura Greasley, 2, all of Huntington Beach; Derrick Greasley, 31, and Albert Greasley, 62, of Leicestershire, England; and Richard Handley, 50, of Cornwall, England.

Neither driver was cited, but the accident remains under investigation.
