The State : Small Plane Crashes; 3 Die
Three people were killed when a single-engine plane crashed in a rural area between the San Joaquin County communities of Ripon and Manteca. A sheriff’s deputy said the pilot radioed shortly before the crash that his wings were icing at 10,000 feet. Fred O’Donnell of the Federal Aviation Administration in Los Angeles said the aircraft disappeared from radar screens a short time after that. He said the Beechcraft Bonanza was on the way from Hayward to El Monte Airport. Names of the victims were withheld pending notification of relatives. There was no indication of damage to structures or injury to anyone on the ground.
