Luis Alves scored one goal and set up another to give Mexico’s Club America soccer team a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich of West Germany in an exhibition match Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
Alves’ offensive play supported the goalkeeping of Adrian Chavez, who withstood a barrage of Bayern Munich shots to record 9 saves.
Club America went ahead, 2-1, with 22 minutes left when Alves grounded a diagonal pass to Juan Hernandez, who broke away from the Bayern Munich defense to score.
The match was played before an estimated crowd of 11,500--the largest to see a soccer match in Santa Ana sinc Dec. 4, 1987, when 11,700 watched an Olympic qualifying match between Mexico and Guyana.
