College Basketball Roundup : Virginia Wins as Morgan Takes Over in Overtime

Richard Morgan scored the final 7 points of overtime Tuesday night to carry Virginia to a 64-58 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Maryland at College Park, Md.

Maryland (6-10 overall, 0-4 in the ACC) had a 58-57 lead when Morgan, who scored 21 points, sank a 3-point shot with 1:17 left.

Morgan scored again with 17 seconds left and added 2 free throws with 3 seconds remaining.

Matt Blundin and John Crotty each scored 11 points for Virginia (9-6, 2-2). Tony Massenburg had 20 points for Maryland.

Pittsburgh 73, Boston College 64--Bobby Martin scored 17 points and Jason Matthews added 16 as the Panthers downed the Eagles in a Big East game at Boston.

Pitt (9-6, 2-2) pulled even, 55-55, with 5:51 left on Pat Cavanaugh’s basket to start a 12-3 run.

Dana Barros scored 15 points for Boston College (8-6, 1-3).

Notre Dame 67, Southern Methodist 45--The Irish (8-2) scored the first 11 points and held the Mustangs without a field goal for a 6-minute stretch in the first half at South Bend, Ind.

Marquette 72, DePaul 64--Tyrone Baldwin scored 18 points, including 2 baskets in the final 5 minutes, as the Warriors got past the Blue Demons at Milwaukee.

Baldwin’s basket broke a 60-60 tie with 5:22 left and he gave Marquette (8-6) a 68-64 lead by scoring with 55 seconds left.

Stanley Brundy had 16 points for DePaul (10-8).
