Two Santa Ana men were in custody Saturday in connection with a pair of armed robberies that were carried out with an Uzi submachine gun, authorities said.
Ignacio Soriano, 21, and Israel Cervantes, 19, were arrested Friday night on suspicion of auto theft and armed robbery, Santa Ana Police Lt. Hugh Mooney said. The two are being held in Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail each.
Mooney said two men, brandishing the semiautomatic assault weapon, stopped a passing motorist in the 1100 block of South Poplar Street and took his car. The men then robbed a group of men at gunpoint in a garage on South Shelton Street. Police spotted the suspects later, and a chase began that involved patrol cars, police dogs and a police helicopter.
The suspects, still carrying the Uzi, were arrested after a foot chase in the 2500 block of South Baker Street.
