Del Ballard Jr. capitalized on a missed spare by Bob Benoit for a 245-224 victory in the championship game of the Professional Bowlers Assn.’s $175,000 Showboat Invitational at Las Vegas.
Ballard picked up his third career title and a $33,000 first prize. He has won all of his PBA titles in long-format, 56-game tournaments. Only 4 of 36 PBA tournaments use the format.
Jess Stayrook opened the final round by eliminating Chris Warren, 225-210. Ballard then defeated Stayrook, 224-205, and Parker Bohn III, 234-181, to earn his berth against Benoit.
