One man died and a second was injured in two separate apartment fires Sunday afternoon in the San Fernando Valley.

A body of a man about 30 years old was found after 20 firefighters doused a blaze in a Woodland Hills apartment about 1 p.m., Los Angeles city Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. The victim’s identity was not available, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

The fire, in a top-floor unit of a three-story building in the 22100 block of Victory Boulevard, took 12 minutes to extinguish, Wells said. The apartment was heavily damaged and the hallway had smoke damage, but damage estimates were not available.

Less than an hour earlier, a Van Nuys man was injured in an apartment fire in the 6600 block of Woodley Avenue, Wells said.

The man, also about 30, suffered first- and second-degree burns on his face and hands and was taken to Panorama Community Hospital in Panorama City, where he was in stable condition Sunday afternoon, officials said. His name also was withheld by authorities.

The electrical fire was put out in less than 15 minutes, Wells said. Damage to the apartment, on the second floor of a two-story building, and its contents was estimated at $30,000. No further details about the cause of the fire were available, Wells said.
