College Basketball Roundup : Michigan Is Edged by Indiana

Jay Edwards scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half, and No. 16-ranked Indiana held off No. 10 Michigan, 71-70, Monday night at Ann Arbor, Mich.

Michigan (15-4 overall, 3-3 in the Big Ten) had its chances to win, but Terry Mills missed from the right side and Mark Hughes missed from the left in the final seconds.

Edwards made a 3-point shot with 4:06 left to break a 64-64 tie, and Indiana (16-4, 6-0) never trailed again on the way to its 13th straight victory.

Georgetown 75, St. John’s 64--Dikembe Mutombo set a school record with 12 blocked shots and Dwayne Bryant scored 18 points as second-ranked Georgetown beat the Redmen in a Big East game at Landover, Md.

St. John’s (12-5, 4-3) fell behind by 17 points in the first half but inched back within 60-48 before Georgetown (15-1, 5-1) pulled away with an 11-6 surge.

Matt Brust had 26 points for St. John’s.

LaSalle 89, Iona 64--Lionel Simmons had 25 points and 18 rebounds as the Explorers trounced the Gaels at New Rochelle, N.Y., for their 20th straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory.

Jack Hurd added 23 points for LaSalle (14-3, 6-0). Chip Langdon scored 16 for Iona (8-10, 2-2).
