Panel on Police Facility Sought
city is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on a Citizens Advisory Committee that will help explore plans for a new police facility.
The City Council decided to establish the committee because an informal survey showed that although voters in November rejected a $16.6-million bond issue to build a new police station, most believe that a new facility is needed, said city spokeswoman Judith Feuer.
The survey indicated that most residents had questioned the location, size, and design of such a project, which was not specified in the bond issue on the ballot, Feuer said.
Advisory committee members will work with city officials to review options in light of the bond issue’s defeat. Members will also work with an architect to suggest design features they believe will be appropriate for such a project.
The City Council has not determined how many residents will serve on the committee, said Feuer.
Residents interested in serving on the committee can obtain an application at City Hall or by contacting City Clerk Frances Moore at 570-5090 by Feb. 3.
