Share

Six passengers and the driver of a Southern California Rapid Transit District bus suffered minor injuries Friday morning when a dump truck rolled back into it in the San Gabriel Valley community of Walnut, authorities said.

Sheriff’s investigator Richard Clark said the truck, which sat disabled at the side of Grand Avenue near College Vista Avenue while its driver went to call for help, apparently slipped its brake as the bus was southbound up the slope.

The injured were taken to area hospitals, where they were treated and released. RTD spokesman Rick Jager said the front of the bus was badly damaged.

County Fire Department spokeswoman Esther Whittler said a county fire truck en route to the scene collided with a car. She also said two other vehicles were involved in a third accident nearby. She could not say whether it was related to the bus accident.

No injuries were reported in either of the other mishaps.
