Those TV Faces

Millions of Americans last month celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 60th birthday. It was the lead story on most L.A. TV news shows.

Had Dr. King lived, he would have seen that not much has changed regarding hiring policies, particularly in television.

There isn’t one full-time black anchor, either locally or nationally, who appears each day on the evening news. It’s the same bland faces--Jess, Kelly, Paul, Ann, Jerry, John, Tawny, Tom, Peter, Dan. And the barrio and ghetto kids are well aware of this situation.
