George Seifert, the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, held his first news conference and announced a reorganization of the coaching staff.
Bill McPherson, a 10-year defensive assistant with the 49ers, will take over the position of defensive coordinator vacated by Seifert.
Mike Holmgren, the team’s quarterbacks coach since 1986, will take on the added responsibility of offensive coordinator. Walsh used to handle that job himself.
Holmgren will draw up most of the offensive game plan and be responsible for calling plays during the game, Seifert said.
