Cerritos, a former dairy town developed in the 1960s and 1970s, was recently declared the most ethnically diverse community in the nation by Cal State Northridge researchers who based their findings on 1980 census data.

Slightly more than 54% of the city’s 55,650 residents are Anglo. The rest belong to a rainbow of minority groups including Asians, blacks and Latinos. Asians are the largest minority, representing 21.6% of the population, according to 1985 state estimates. Latinos make up about 14% and blacks nearly 8%.
